A Brief Biography: Jen Hoffman
Jen made her first appearance with Peter on Too Much Sugar in January 1998. Stories have always played an important part of Jen's life. She was raised in a family with a strong storytelling tradition, and has fond memories of her grandfather Grumpy reading aloud her favorite book, Over and Over, in his lilting southern drawl. Her father is a prolific writer and amateur performer, and she too followed suit. While in graduate school, Jen supported herself through voiceovers in local radio commercials in New York. She continued performing theatrically at Hofstra University and appeared in numerous children's shows as well as classical dramas.
Jen's first work on Too Much Sugar was the role of an unrepentant Rapunzel, who had been filling poor Little Miss Muffet's house with spiders. She later played Cinderella, the Old Woman in the Shoe, and countless other characters from children's literature. While most of her time for the first year was spent acting on that program, she occasionally made guest appearances on Kid n' Kaboodle.
With the end of Too Much Sugar in 1999, Jen became a semi-regular on what soon became Kid & Kaboodle. In January 2000, she moved to the Netherlands to create a wooden shoe with better arch support. Even while Jen was away, however, the pre-recorded stories she had done in the past were still heard almost every week. She returned for a special guest appearance in June that year, before heading back across the pond to continue her work in footwear. Her pre-recorded stories continued to air, and the occasional tale played at the Tell Us A Tale Storytime page at AlbemarleKids.com (now defunct), allowing her, and countless others, the chance to listen to a story from the upcoming week's show. In October 2000, having to listen to those stories on the internet ended, as Jen moved back to the Central Virginia area. She soon joined Peter as one of the regular voices of Kid & Kaboodle, and now Tell Us A Tale....
